I have been exploring and experimenting with infrared photography for over 10 years and my approach and processes have continued to evolve over that time, as has the look of the images I have created as I try more things and get more experience under my belt. I find it an exciting, fun and stimulating type of photography as it produces works that are a mix of the familiar and the unexpected at the same time, often with bright or rich colors that serve to stimulate the mind and lift the mood. 

Our eyes cannot see infrared light, as it lies just beyond what is classified as the “visible” spectrum that human eyesight can detect. When we make photos using an infrared-equipped camera we create ways to see the world in different ways, as colors, textures, leaves and plants, human skin, and all other manner of objects can reflect IR light in unique and interesting ways.

When we say infrared we are referring to the spectrum of light just beyond the range humans can detect with their eyesight, between 700 – 900 nm (nanometers). This part of the spectrum is referred to as “near-infrared” to distinguish it from “far-infrared,” which is the domain of thermal imaging that you might see being used by a spy or action hero in movies or on TV.
